Julia Nicholls

Julia Nicholls is a Western Australian singer, songwriter, composer, arranger, and violinist who loves to share her talents and skills with the community. Her compositions and arrangements  have received international recognition and she has won the ACMF Songwriting competition in 2012 and WAM Song of the Year in 2013. Julia has arranged and created music for acclaimed duo Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse and Perth Symphony Orchestra.

With a passion for inspiring others through music and community education, Julia has fifteen years of experience in symphony orchestras and choirs. As an Assistant Musical Director of the Baden Street Singers, she coaches and motivates others to achieve their musical aspirations.

Julia holds a Bachelor of Philosophy (Hons.) and a Master of Musicology from the University of Western Australia, focusing on girl group music, popular music instrumentation, and the role of music in girlhood.  She has presented research on orchestration and gender identity at international conferences, including Pop Conference 2018 in Seattle.

Currently, Julia sings as a Lay Clerk and soloist with St George’s Cathedral Consort and performs as a violinist with Perth Symphony Orchestra.
