Abbey Felton

Abbey is a Boorloo/Perth -based guitarist, composer, specialising in composition with looping station. She is enthusiastic about the performance and creation of contemporary classical guitar works, particularly by Australian and female composers. Her compositions draw inspiration from such diverse artists as Carolina Eyck, Joni Mitchell, and the Oh Hellos.

In 2020 Abbey undertook honours research into contemporary classical guitar works by Australian women composers, culminating in a recital of four works. She has since performed selections of these works in a variety of contexts, including at the semi-finals of the 2022 Adelaide Guitar Competition and in solo concerts.

In 2023, Abbey was selected as Ensemble Offspring’s Hatched Associate Artist, which involved her commissioning a new work from Christine Pan, Infused with Silent Voices, for guitar flute, vibraphone and cello. Abbey gave the world premiere of this work in October 2023 with Ensemble Offspring. Early in 2024 Abbey presented “The Human Experience”, a concert which featured chamber music for guitar, which included music written by women composers Ann Cawrse, Nardi Simpson and the Perth premiere of Christine Pan’s work.
