Mia Brine
Mia Brine is an award-winning pianist, vocalist, composer, and woodwind specialist, celebrated for her versatility and contributions to both classical and musical theatre realms. She graduated from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in 2005 with a Bachelor of Performing Arts, specialising in classical clarinet and piano.
Mia's extensive performance portfolio includes roles as Keyboard I for productions like "Ghost" at Crown Theatre and "Novecento" with the West Australian Ballet Company. She also played Celeste in "The Nutcracker" with the West Australian Philharmonic Orchestra and served as Keyboard II in the Perth season of "Jersey Boys." Her proficiency extends to over twenty professional musicals, where she showcased her talents on saxophone, clarinet, and flute.
In 2006, Mia collaborated with the New College Choir in Oxford, UK, and had her choral composition "Silent Weeping" recorded by jazz composer Ed Partyka and the Sunday Night Orchestra for the album "Overcast." She also composed and performed the score for the acclaimed show "The Good Thief" at the Blue Room Theatre and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Her recent credits include performances in the Perth seasons of touring productions such as "Grease," "Wicked," "Georgy Girl," "Mamma Mia!," and "The Book of Mormon." She has also delivered musical theatre workshops in Shanghai, demonstrating her commitment to arts education.
In 2021, Mia was the Musical Director and Choral Arranger for "Hymns for End Times," a collaboration with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra and Voyces, which earned a nomination for the APRA/AMCOS Notated Performance of the Year. She also transcribed and arranged the musical "Bran Nue Dae" in 2020, touring with the production as a keyboardist for Opera Australia.
In 2023, Mia took on the role of Associate Musical Director for the Australian premiere of "& Juliet" in Melbourne. She also serves as Musical Director for WAAPA's 2025 production of "Freaky Friday," further solidifying her reputation as a dynamic force in musical direction and performance.
