Southern Stars
Celebrating Music by Australian Women
Immediate Release – 27 October 2025
From the creators of Finding Connie and Her Sound, Her Story comes Southern Stars — a concert celebrating the voices of Australian women in music.
Presented by MIRABILIS COLLECTIVE, this 60-minute performance features works by contemporary Australian composers and songwriters, including a world premiere (commissioned by Mirabilis Collective), chamber works by Elena Kats-Chernin and Jessica Wells, and reimaginings of songs by Kate Miller-Heidke, Stiff Gins, and Angie McMahon.
The programme includes the first performance of Love, a new West Australian collaboration between composer Katherine Potter and poet Caitlin Maling. The poem, from Maling’s 2023 collection Spore or Seed, explores the contradictions of motherhood — tenderness and exhaustion, wonder and fear.
Performers: Lucinda Nicholls (soprano), Yi-Yun Loei (harp), Julia Nicholls (violin), Katherine Potter (viola), Elena Wittkuhn (cello), Tresna Stampalia (flute), and Stephanie Nicholls (piano/oboe).
“Southern Stars is a celebration of our own musical landscape — the beauty, strength, and creativity of Australian women composers.”
— Stephanie Nicholls, Artistic Director, Mirabilis Collective
