Stephanie Nicholls

Stephanie Nicholls is a versatile musician and passionate arts advocate based on Whadjuk Boodjar. With a career spanning over three decades, Stephanie has made significant contributions to WA’s vibrant music scene as an oboist, pianist, arranger, and musical director.

Her orchestral experience is extensive and distinguished. Stephanie is currently Associate Principal Oboe with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra and regularly performs as Principal Oboe with Perth Symphony Orchestra. Her diverse musical interests are reflected in her recordings with the award-winning Johannes Luebbers Dectet, with whom she has appeared at the Perth International and Wangaratta Jazz Festivals.

Recognised for her expertise, Stephanie was appointed Principal Consultant for the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) oboe syllabus in 2017. She continues to serve as an examiner for both oboe and piano, and is a respected adjudicator for festivals across the country. As a collaborative pianist and coach, Stephanie’s versatility spans multiple genres. She presently serves as the College Accompanist at Methodist Ladies’ College. Her commitment to nurturing the next generation of musicians is evident in her lecturing and teaching roles at UWA Conservatorium of Music and WAAPA.

Stephanie’s passion for celebrating women's voices in music led her to found Mirabilis Collective. Through this ensemble, she continues to push boundaries, champion underrepresented composers, and inspire audiences and fellow musicians alike.
